About
Make It Happen Business Consulting
Are you dreaming of starting your own business, growing an existing one, securing sponsorship, or bringing an event idea to life but unsure where to begin?
We’re here to help make it happen.
Richard Scarr brings extensive real-world experience across business ownership, hospitality operations, high-performance sport, event management, sponsorship development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic growth.

Richard has successfully opened and managed four cafés and hospitality businesses in the Hobart region, including launching three during the challenges of the pandemic—demonstrating resilience, commercial acumen, leadership, and the ability to deliver under pressure.

Before hospitality, Richard built an extensive career in high-performance sailing and athlete development.
As Tasmanian State Sailing Coach, he developed a thriving state performance pathway program in partnership with the Tasmanian Institute of Sport, producing state, national, and world champions while building one of Tasmania’s strongest sailing development programs.

Richard then progressed to the national stage as an Australian Paralympic Sailing Coach, working across two Paralympic campaigns with Matt Bugg through London 2012 and Rio 2016. What began as a long-term development journey before London culminated in Paralympic Silver Medal success in Rio—a highly rewarding achievement built through years of strategic planning, coaching, mentoring, and performance leadership.

Beyond business and sport, Richard has extensive experience in major event delivery, sponsorship partnerships, stakeholder management, media activation, and event growth, much of it driven through a passion for volunteering and community contribution.
Richard has volunteered in key operational and leadership roles with the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania’s Van Diemen’s Land Circumnavigation (VDLC), helping deliver Tasmania’s premier offshore cruising event through participant coordination, sponsor activations, communications, hospitality experiences, logistics, and event operations.
He has also played a significant volunteer role in the reintroduction of the iconic Australian Three Peaks Race, helping bring one of Tasmania’s legendary endurance events back to life through stakeholder engagement, sponsorship development, media opportunities, strategic planning, and event activation.

Together, Richard and Belinda combine practical business expertise, strategic thinking, coaching, operational problem-solving, and hands-on delivery experience to support businesses, clubs, organisations, and event owners from concept through to successful execution.
Whether you’re launching a new business, revitalising an existing operation, planning an event, developing sponsorship opportunities, or bringing a dormant concept back to life — we help turn ideas into action.
